Loving colors

My post today is partly about the colors I used.
I wanted to use the Colour Q color combo so this card is the result. What I love about using a color challenge is it is normally a color combo I would never think to use myself.
The dictionary Hero Arts stamp was stamped with a gray stamp pad and the frame is also a stamp by Hero Arts.  Adding the splash of blue was so out of the box for me and I love it.
Here is the Colour Q combo.
I also wanted to use Kimber's Saturday sketch at 2 Peas in a Bucket and using a Patriot color combo just seemed fitting. Especially since I had these Pebbles papers sitting on my desk.
My most recent purchase from My Favorite Things stamps is this great set of zig zag dies. LOVE how easy they are to use.
For a couple fun photos...
We have a store in town by the name of Rocket Fizz. It is a store full of every kind of soda favor you would want and maybe NOT want and tons of candy for all over the world. My granddaughter wanted to drop in. I couldn't resist taking some pics with my Hipstamatic camera. Can you see some of those names!!!

A sketch here and a sketch there...

(Little movie review first) We went to see Brave! The new Disney Princess is oh so adorable! BUT...there were some dark and rather scary parts for a little four year old. The movie contained a witch and a spell and that is the kind of topic we tend to try to avoid in our movie watching, we weren't aware that was part of the story. I can mostly give it a thumbs up, I just wish these movies didn't always seem to have to have the dark portions.  There was a little cartoon kind of movie first and that was something I would want to see over and over, it was beyond cute.

I get to share a couple fun new cards with you in this post.
First off, a card based on the Freshly Made sketch. I am also using it for the Cas-ual Friday challenge for PINK. It isn't all pink but I love the pink accents.
I just got a wonderful little mini pad of papers by Pebbles, Inc from the Sunny Side collection. I thought the most perfect way to show off a mix of adorable little patterns papers was to cut them in little pieces.
I used my new die set of Hexagons from Lifestyle Crafts. It was so fun to create my little "quilt" design.
This wonderful doily design is also a die by Lifestyle Crafts.  The "Smile" banner is a stamp by Pebbles.
Here is the Freshly Made sketch I followed.
Next up is a card I created around the CPS sketch for this week. Sizzix has been our sponsor this month and I have already mentioned how much I love the label die set that I was able to play with but I have to say it again!!!
The set contains several slightly different shapes that are all meant to work together. I think they are so fun. The little strip under the label is punched with an EK Success border punch and that cute little felt birdie is from a set by Heidi Grace that I picked up a Joann's Craft store.
This is this weeks Card Postioning Systems sketch.

Cutting papers and digital papers

I played with a technique I have wanted to try for awhile.  I followed the great tutorial that Marcy Penner put on her blog.
I printed out four different patterns from a digital paper kit. Next I cut the papers following Marcy's tutorial, I just changed the sizes since I was using them on a card and she used a layout.
I think the result is so much fun and I'll try it again someday.
Next up, the Tuesday Trigger from Moxie Fab.  My poor friend Cath is still recovering from surgery so the Trigger has been extended and that gave me the time to put a card together for the challenge.
I purchased a digital kit called Nature Boy from 2 Peas in a Bucket and these flowers were in the kit, they actually come in three different colors. I knew they went with that Trigger pretty well.
I printed out the buttons separately so I could add them with foam tape. I like to add some dimension when using digital elements on a card.
And, more beach pics...
My grandson has long pants on because when he started out the day and his mom dressed him, going to the beach wasn't in the plans and then when we decided to stop for a bit, it was pretty cold out. The not so good part is that he couldn't resist playing with the waves and so ended up pretty wet!
Capturing his little footprints in the sand is fun.

I just happened to catch my granddaughter jumping for joy at being at the beach and in playing with the waves. This is something she has always loved doing.

It's a sunny day

It really isn't here right now because we usually experience June Gloom right here on the coast, it should burn off some time today, maybe!!!
I wanted to share a couple sketch cards and both have a sun or summer theme to them.  This first one is the Card Positioning System sketch.
I pulled out my mini pad of My Mind's Eye papers from the Fine and Dandy collection, plus I had the matching chipboard pieces.  It was fun how fast and easy the card was.
Here is a close up of my sun. I used the chipboard sun and added a chipboard button, leaving in the circles in the holes.
Next up, the Card Patterns sketch.
I started out with the thought of a patriotic theme but I didn't end up there!!! I used a background stamp from Hero Arts and stamped it with white, embossed it with white and then I cut it in two pieces to match the sketch.  I colored both pieces with Distress Stains.
The little flip flops are from a set of three shoe stamps by Hero Arts.
And for some beach pics...
We went right before sunset so you can see that starting in the background, there was a cloud layer just off the coast. My granddaughter always loved to draw in the sand.
They had so much fun playing with the waves, trying not to get wet but that didn't last!!!
She brought a camera to try to capture some fun pics of her own.
Just before we left, this was the view we experienced.

Fun with cardstock

I love to play and I love playing with color challenges so my two cards I am going to share in this post use two different color challenges and both cards ended up being made up mostly of colored cardstocks.
First up, I took the Colour Q colors.  I have seen a few designers use a starburst type of design with papers and that was how I wanted to use the colors on my card.  I took three 5" squares and just cut them apart. All of the cuts were identical, so I alternated the colors and put my square back together.
Another technique I have wanted to use it applying ink to a clear stamp block, the kind you normally attach your cling stamps too. Then that inked block is pressed into the paper, making it the stamp, so to speak. I used a great green stamp pad by Clearsnap and after the block was completely inked, I gave it a spritz of water.

Here is the Colour Q combo.
Next I used the Colour Q combo.  I just got a brand new Cricut cartridge, Sweater Weather.  Everything on the cartridge looks like a warm and cuddly sweater or mittens, etc.  While I used a neat heart image, I thought it still had a winter look with those colors.
Notice the white cardstock too, I used a great Cuttlebug embossing folder. I thought that design went along with my theme.

Here is The Play Date Cafe colors.
And for some pics from my Hipstamatic...
We went on down to the beach the other evening just before sunset. It was on the cold side, thus the coats.  We had so much fun!!!
I'll share some more pics from this little visit in my next post.

A challenge here and there

That's right, my cards today incorporate some great challenges!
First up, I used the color combo from The Play Date Cafe. It is a southwest type of combo and I thought this piece fit that plus I will also enter this to the "Thinking of You" contest at Hero Arts.
The flower piece is a new digital stamp from a set at 2 peas. The writing background printed on the white cardstock is also from that kit. I decided to make my flower and leaves a little 3-D so I printed the flower out twice and added parts of it to the original flower with foam tape. The little sentiment is a stamp.
 Here is the color combo.

Next up, I used the sketch at Card Patterns and the Kraft challenge during stamping week at 2 peas.
I have wanted to use this adorable set of stamps from Wplus9 Designs on kraft colored paper stamped with the white and black for awhile now and I so like how it turned out.
Here is the Card Patterns sketch.
And, this card uses the Card Positioning Systems sketch and my set of dies and stamps by Sizzix as they are our sponsors this month.
I LOVE this set of die label shapes. I cut the dark blue label, the maroon colored little frame and then two other label shapes. They are all meant to be used together is you want. The paper behind my label is from a digital paper kit.
Here is the CPS sketch.
