Woodgrain this way and that

I wanted to make use of one of the Tim Holtz embossing folders, one that created a woodgrain look to the paper.  There is hardly a better way to use an embossing folder then with Core'dinations cardstocks.  (Remember that Core'dinations just released two pads of cardstocks in Tim Holtz colors)

This card includes all kinds of Tim Holtz products and it ended up with a "pretty" look.  The yellow cardstock is the basic Core Essentials and then that was rubbed with a few shades of Distress Ink stamp pads.  A piece of the blue cardstock is embossed with another embossing folder. 

The flourish piece is from a set of Grungeboard.  I painted it with silver crackle paint by Ranger and it turned out so gorgeous. The button is also Tim Holtz. 

I added a little row of tickets that is a Tim Holtz stamp.  After it was stamped with black ink on white cardstock, I used the Blending Tool to blend in a few different shades of Distress Ink. 

Another example of using the woodgrain embossing folder is done with Core'dinations new Pearl cardstock in silver.  I did sand it slightly giving it a grunge look. 

The leaf is a Tim Holtz stamp.  I stamped it on copper, pearl paper and embossed it with Copper embossing powder and cut that out.  The piece behind that is a piece of Whitewash Core'dinations.  That was embossed with a Swiss Dot embossing folder and then cut out in a label shape by Sizzix.

We have been having more rain then usual for us and I hear more is on the way! SOOOO what better activity for a little guy then walking in the puddles with his new boots!

Pulling out some fabric

The sketch at Unscripted sketches for this week has a piggyback challenge to it - use fabric on your project. 

Now I buy fabric to use on cards because I absolutely love walking through quilt stores but then I tend to just put them away and not make the effort to make them work. This week was the week to pull out one of those pieces that is covered with little tea pots. 

Here is a close-up of the little tea pot that I cut out of the fabric piece.  I needed to decide how I was going to attach this to my card so I tried something new. I applied some Mod Podge to a piece of white cardstock and then pressed the cut out tea pot over the paper. I gently pressed the two together. Let me tell you, this worked PERFECT! It stiffened the fabric just right. I added it to my card with Scrap Dots by Helmar.  I added a small piece of rose ribbon to one of the sections of my card and so I had different levels. The Scrap Dots is like thick glue and it allows you to add something that has dimension similar to pop dots.

This is my Card Postioning Systems card for this week.  The scallop circle piece is cut from a piece of We R Memory Keepers paper, just right to fit the sketch. 

I used a little shaped label by K&Co and added a little bit of extra color to it with stamp pads. The flower is one of my newest purchases, a Prima flower.

We were in Oregon recently and when we are close enough, we always have to take a little trip to see Multnomah Falls. That spot is just gorgeous any  time of the year.  It was COLD and I was surprised at how much of the water coming down the falls was frozen. What a beautiful sight.

 All of that white is frozen water. 

 There was a smaller creek and I loved how many icicles I found.

A Moxie Fab Trigger and Rainy days

To start off my post I wanted to share my card for the newest Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger. 

 Don't you just want to go here? I love how inviting it is and it also makes for a great challenge.

 Here is my card to go along with the trigger.  There were two things in particular that caught my attention in the trigger. That wonderful, red print one one of the pillows that looks like a stitched design and the striped, blue pillows.

 I also liked the combination of white, blue and red.  I used an embossing folder to create the lines in the blue, Vintage Core'dinations cardstock and then sanded my squares. I thought that was a great way to mimic the striped pillows.

 I tried to figure out how I could created something that would have that red, stitched look and I thought of a technique I have read about but not tried yet.  I took one of my embossing folders and I a red Ancient Page stamp pad and gave one side of the embossing folder a coat with the red ink. I then inserted a piece of white cardstock and ran this through my Cuttlebug. The embosssed design then had a slight red tint to the design.  After I cut this piece out with a Spellbinder Nestabilities label shape, I added a little more of the red color to the cut and embossed edges. 

 The flower is by Recollections and that was added over a piece of white tulle that is tried in a couple bows. 

 It is raining here today, something we seldom see except for this year when we are getting our fair share. My card using a new collection by Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker is so fitting. Notice the badge on my sidebar showing this collection, It's Raining, It's Pouring. I just love every part of this cute set.  You can also see this card and several others in a blog post at Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker.

 The little turtle with his umbrella is a die cut that I cut out. I added Aleene's Paper Glaze to the dots on the umbrella and his boots.

And this is what we were up to last night! Our youngest grandson collided with a coffee table. The interesting part of this is that the coffee table had padding on two sides to hopefully prevent something like this. Anyway, our daughter ended up in the emergency room for a couple hours last night to make sure all was OK. The damage looks worse then it actually is, I guess.

Flower Soft Blog Hop

My card uses a Sepia Charlie's Ark card topper from the From the Heart set.  This set comes with two images and a total of six toppers, 2 of each design.  These toppers come in a simple, Sepia color combination and something that is really fun about them is that it is so easy to add some color.  I used my Copic markers to add color to the ribbon, the bear and the rose. 

Is it amazing what a little Flower Soft looks like up close? LOVE the texture that you really can't add any other way.  I used Baby Peach and Sand Ultra Fine Flower Soft.

Butterflies, Trees, Flowers and Cupcakes

Yep, my post today covers all of that!

First of all, my  Unscripted sketch card for this week.  That is where the Butterfly comes in plus this great purple patterned paper.

The light blue background of tickets is a Tim Holtz stamp. The butterfly is a stamp by Inkadinkado.  It is a set that has butterflies in a variety of designs. For this one, I stamped it with black Versafine ink and then embossed that with Clear Detail embossing powder.  Next, I just ran various Copic markers over the stamped image. 

Next, the trees are part of my Card Positioning Systems sketch card for this week.  I pulled out these brand new papers by Nikki Sivils, Scrapboooker.  The collection is We Are Family.  I so love the colors.

Seriously, are these just the cutest little trees you have ever seen? They are die cuts from this collection. 

Now for a few photos...

We have been gone for a couple weeks and when we arrived back home yesterday, this is what I found in my backyard.  I planted these bulbs last fall and have been waiting patiently.

This is the first year I have planted these. I planted several kinds of bulbs though so I am still waiting on the rest.

And, I found a new cupcake store and they had a few special treats for Valentines Day.  If you are ever in Newberg or Tigard, Oregon, be sure to look up this store, Sweetest Thing Cupcakes. The store in Newberg is in the cutest, old house.

It's Raining It's Pouring

One of my CHA projects was to use this adorable heart shaped album by Maya Road with Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker's new It's Raining,  It's Pouring collection of papers and stickers. 

I started out by painting all of the chipboard pages with red paint and then punching holes in the scallops of the front and back cover.  The little images on the cover are die cuts cut from one of the papers in the collection. 

To make this project even more fun, I knew I had just the right photos for it.  Even with the pages covered with either patterned papers or full photos, I still painted the edges of the heart shapes with the red paint so they would look finished.  I also "glued" the papers and photos on with Mod Podge because I find it to work the best for me and then I also did give a light coat of the Mod Podge to each page. I find it just seems to finish off the project and it also makes it safe for little hands.

I just love every single pattern in this collection. So many of them are perfect for any "rain" related photo but there are other prints that can stand alone for any project.

Unscripted and CPS sketch time

Yeah, another week and more sketches to share with you.  Saturday means a new Unscripted sketch, Sunday means a new Card Positioning Systems sketch. 

The first card I will share in this post is the card that I created with the newest Unscripted sketch.  I just picked up a mini pad of patterned papers by K&Co at Michaels and so I pulled that out for this card. 

I actually love fussy cutting so I cut out the flowers and leaves from one of the papers.  I even cut out some additonal pieces of the flower so that I could layer the flower.  The oval is cut using a Spellbinder Nestabilities and then sanded. 

And this card uses the newest CPS sketch and these really cute stamps.  We got to play with an adorable Unity set of stamps and I paired them with brand NEW Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker papers from the Max and Mollie collection. 

The scallops are stamped with brown ink and they are part of the set as is this really cute little chick. I added a glitter, heart to the middle of her tummy. 

Plus, I want to share this layout.  I was able to play along with a Becky Fleck PageMaps sketch for February and I used another brand NEW Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker collection, It's You Day.  The row of cupcakes are on the bottom edge of one of the patterned papers. 

The piece with the names of the months of the year are on the die cut sheet. I thought it made a fun little accent and then I highlighted the month of his birthday. 

The candles are also part of the die cut sheet, I just used two of them since this is his 2nd birthday.  I accented the flames on the candles with Glitter 3-D Fashion paint by Tulip.
