The SUNDAY TIMES - 8.24.08 - What does HONORING God look like?

We sang this song in church recently:
Amazing Love how can it be,
that you my King would die for me?
Amazing Love I know it's true,
and it's my joy to HONOR You,
In all I do, to HONOR You.
(Billy James Foote - You Are My King)

I always have to stop right here. If I am singing this as a prayer, if you will, then I find I need to add more to that prayer at this point. I want to HONOR You, God, how am I doing?
How about how I treat the gal who just waited on me or the checker at the store? What about how my kids and husband see me, the expressions on my face, my attitudes? What about the person in line with me where we are both getting anxious about the time it's taking? How about my neighbor? I want that "check" that comes when I am feeling other then "Christ-like". I want others to see something different in me and in my actions and attitudes.

Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!
Keep me from stupid sins,
from thinking I can take over your work;
Then I can start this day sun-washed,
scrubbed clean of the grime of sin.
These are the words in my mouth;
these are what I chew on and pray.
Accept them when I place them
on the morning altar,
O God, my Altar-Rock,
God, Priest-of-My-Altar.
Psalm 19:11-14 (The Message Bible)

  1. Hmmm....Thanks for this Linda. We sang the same song this morning. Thanks for sharing the verses too. The Message has such a neat way of making scripture more real.

  2. Beautiful song (and photo, too). I try to do some of the very same things you talked about. I truly believe that honoring Him is all about living a life like He did.
