Sweet Peas Galore

How about some goodness with my new Sweet Pea stamp from PaperTrey, Inc, a fabulous colour combo from Embellish Magazine and the Card Patterns sketch for this week? 

All I needed to do was to take one look at this amazing color combo and I knew I wanted to play. In fact, that green, pink and brown are so yummy together, I would like to just keep making cards to go with it! (I forgot the challenge was to include a bird with the colors so I guess this one doesn't count but I like it anyway)

I loved the simple patterned paper look on the sketch and knew that I could create a similar look by just stamping an outline flower and not coloring it in. So, my sweet pea stamp was used to create the background by stamping it in a strong pink on white cardstock. 

I stamped one spray of the sweet peas and cut that in a square, coloring in that portion with Copic markers.  When I was done, I sprayed the entire piece with Marshmallow Glimmer Mist and I just wish you could see the great, subtle sparkle that gave my card.

Notice the embossed design in the card base.  That is Core Impressions cardstock by Core'dinations. 

This next card uses my sweet pea stamp in a very different way. Every single piece of paper on this card was a scrap! I used the 2 Sketches 4 You sketch to create this card plus the black striped circle fits with the Little Red Wagon challenge.   

I stamped just one of the flowers on the spray on patterned paper and then stamped two of the leaves on another piece of patterned paper.

Notice the embossed design in this card base, another piece of Core Impressions by Core'dinations.  I used my brand new Tim Holtz embossing plate on the white cardstock.

Two Color Challenges and Two sketches

I looooooove color challenges and one of my favs is Kwernerdesign.com. I just had to give this one a try. I combined my card with the Get Sketchy sketch #39 . And, it fits the challenge at Little Red Wagon to create a Birthday Card.

I missed the darkest blue in my combo and one of my blues is a little more aqua then what she shows, but I think it came pretty close and it is such a fun and happy combination. That cute label stamp is by Pink Persimmon and it really works for any number of themes but I thought it went pretty well with these colors and with this sketch.

See my little pleated accent across the card? And that peek of patterned paper on the inside?

I don't usually finish the inside of my cards but I wanted to continue the sentiment on the outside and so this banner was the perfect way to do that. These are more Pink Persimmon stamps. The banner set comes with the banner and then with several sentiments and the sentiments are all curved to fit in the banner just right.

And, I also had to try my hand at this wonderful color combo at Embellish Magazine. Their challenge was to also include butterflies and that seemed like the perfect combination.

I pulled out these two patterned papers by October Afternoon and then put the label stamps, that I received only yesterday, to work. These label stamps are meant to coordinate with a Nestabilities die that I do own but I simply cut out around the stamped image.

The butterfly is a Hero Arts stamp and take note of the Glitter 3-D Fashion Paint by Tulip that I added to portions of the wings. I love the glitter that this paint adds while still letting the underneath design and color show through.

And, for this layout, I used the Unscripted Sketch #56. I usually seem to see how well their sketches work with layouts and this gives me the chance to get another layout completed. The papers are all by Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker but from different collections.

The circles are actually records in the patterned paper and I punched them out with circle punches. I thought these gave a "flower" kind of look without being too femine since this is our grandson in the photos.

And I will leave you with a photo. This is a strawberry field that is less then a mile from our house. I just love watching this field during the year and this spring it has been even more fun because of the poppies that have been in bloom for awhile. I wanted to catch this view while the clouds were in the sky because we don't get clouds like this often.

Flowers, Flowers and more Flowers

I set about to work on a few online challenges and ended up using flowers for both. I guess that fits just fine for spring!

This first card fits with the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger for my inspiration and I used 2 Sketches 4 You sketch #52 to help with the arrangement of the card. I was drawn to two specific things in the Tuesday Trigger, the wonderful wavy, ruffle edge on the plates and the luscious peach, white and blue. I used a pair of wavy decorative scissors and but out layers of the white and peach colored papers and layered them on the front of my card.

The flowers are from a set of stamps by JustRite stamps. I colored them with Copic markers and added them to my card with foam tape for dimension. The sentiment is an SRM sticker.

My next card puts to use this great color combo from the Embellish Magazine challenge.

I used the Unscripted sketch #54 for the arrangement of the parts of my card.

Notice the embossed cardstocks on the card. I used two different pieces from the Core Impressions collection by Core'dinations. The flowers are chipboard flowers by Cosmo Cricket.

The scallop circle is a sticker by October Afternoon and the sentiment sticker is by SRM.

And, now for a few photos. We have had some severe winds recently and it is so neat what it does to the ocean. I stopped at the beach this week to get some photos. There were soooooo many birds. Big ones and tiny ones.

Here a ton of the tiny ones were flying along the shore.

They would all turn this way and that together, here they glowed white with the sun on them.

They would all run in and run out with the waves. It was so fun to watch them.

You can barely see them as they were flying towards our pier. See the amazing waves?

Flowers of every color!

Todays post is full of flowers and flowers of every color. For the cards, color is the key ingredient with a couple challenges, Moxie Fab and Embellish Magazine.

This is this weeks Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger. A bowl full of pink and red roses is just so elegant.

I chose to focus on the green vase and the pink roses. You have to love the cardstock for the card base, it is brand new from Core'dinations and Cosmo Cricket. The embossed design is already in the cardstock and all it takes is a little sanding.

And, here are my paper roses. I used this wonderful, woodgrain patterned paper by American crafts.

Here are three of the four layers of my roses. Layer one is a punched scallop circle, layer two is a circle that I roughly cut out and then I folded back the outside of this circle, (the backside of the woodgrain paper is green), not taking care to have it too perfect. The third layer is a punched circle with the edges roughed up with a Tonic Paper Distresser. The last little layer is another punched, scallop circle. I added glue to the back side of the second circle that I folded the edges back on and glued it to the white, scallop circle layer.

The next card and challenge is a color challenge from Embellish Magazine.com.

Gotta love how elegant these colors are together and this also happens to be almost the same colors in the Play Date Cafe challenge for this week. Theirs is really an orange instead of the red.

With this card I got to show off my most recent purchases, this wonderful flower wood stamp from Hero Arts and the Spellbinder, Nestabilities label shape.
The flowers are stamped on Curious Iridescent Cryogen white cardstock with a black Versafine stamp pad and then embossed with clear embossing powder. They were then colored with Copic Markers and cut out. I coated the buds only with Aleene's Paper Glaze for a glass-like finish.

The cardstock that is the card base is a text patterned embossed cardstock from Jenni Bowlin and Core'dinations cardstock. The color is from the Black Magic collection so it is black on the front side and brown or tan for the core and reverse side. Sanding exposed that great brown/tan core and makes the text design really show up. What I really like is that the card is black but the inside is lighter for the sentiment.

I also wanted to share more photos from my trip about 2 weeks ago to a garden we have in our area. While it is spring and things are just starting to bloom, there was still a whole lot to get photos of.

You would almost think that these flowers were the exact inspiration for my previous card!

Orange blossoms with an orange in the background. If you have never smelled these, you have really missed something amazing.

This sign just cracked me up, not knowing there could possibly be a plant with that name!

Spring-like color challenge and March verse

I had to play along with this color challenge at Embellish Magazine not just because I love a challenge but also because the inspiration image they used is irresistable!

This challenge is sponsored by Verve Stamps. I love their stamps but I don't have very many of them. Don't you want that cute hat and that amazing looking cake?

Here is my card using those colors:
Sometimes I have to laugh at how a card ends up going together. This was started because this big bee stamp and the library card stamp have been sitting on my stamping desk for sometime and all of a sudden I just had to use them. I stamped them both, the bee on white cardstock and the library card on a piece of yellow patterned paper by My Mind's Eye. From there a card grew!
For some reason, I could see the card base in a scallop circle shape and so here it is. The patterned paper circle and the solid yellow cardstock circle were cut with my Coluzzle circle template. From there, I folded a 6" x 12" piece of peach colored cardstock in half and then cut around my cut circles with some large scallop scissors that I have had for awhile, leaving the folded edge intact.

To keep with the color scheme in the challenge, I picked up one of my brand new purchases, this patterned paper by We R Memory Keepers. The prints had the exact colors in them that I wanted to use. After I stamped the library card stamp, I cut around it and punched one side with a Stampin' Up border punch. The bee is colored with Copic markers and then parts of it are accented with Aleene's Paper Glaze for an epoxy look.

It is the first of another month and so I wanted to find the verse that I wanted to focus on for March. Interesting enough it is another verse about the importance of LOVE.

How nice is it that Someone else picked out a wardrobe for me. Sounds like a dream come true, you know, like entering a contest and I am the winner. And here it is that this is the one wardrobe that is really the most important in life. But, do I really put on these things each day? I can so see where I need to memorize these verses to remind me of what is important.

I love that last part the most, "regardless of what else you put on, WEAR LOVE. It's your basic, all-purpose garment." Do you know how easy it is for us to think that there are other things in life that are important and it all boils down to WEARING LOVE!
