Unscripted Sketches and Backyard resident

A recent purchase was some great, shear journaling spots from The Little Yellow Bicycle and so when I saw the sketch for this week at Unscripted Sketches, I just knew this was the perfect use for one of the pieces in the package.

The patterned paper is from a pad of papers from the Traveler collection, also from The Little Yellow Bicycle. I loved all of the prints in this collection and I love that by getting the pad, I got smaller prints then what they use on the 12" x 12" papers. The smaller prints are so perfect for cards.

I did punch a circle from plain white cardstock and placed that behind my shear shape so that my rub-on words would show up better. The flower and the leaf image are stamps by DRS Designs. I did stamp the flower with black ink and I embossed it with clear embossing powder. I just might want to use this flower in the black and white on all of my creations!!!

And, now for our backyard resident! These is a spider somewhere and this guy makes a new, HUGE web everyday. Everyday we go out and destroy the amazing creation and everyday or should I say everynight, the spider recreates a new work of art. It truly is an amazing piece of nature's artwork although we would rather he wouldn't do this. I had to take my camera out to try to capture something of it. I used manual focusing to get this photo. That way I could focus on the web and the background was not in focus.

A bit of this and a bit of that and some CPS goodness

First of all, I get to share my Card Positioning Systems blog card! We did not have a sponsor this week, so while our team just loves our sponsors, we also just love to pull out our own supplies and goodies to go with the sketch. Can you guess here, what one of my newest purchases was!

I just had to have these My Mind's Eye papers when I saw them. I love all of the newer, shaped papers that are around and I am always trying to think of how I can use them on a card since they are usually designed for 12"x12" layouts.

How do you like my little flower accent? The white, lacey flower is by Prima, I stamped on a clear button and topped that with a blue button that is secured with little, tiny, glitter brads.

And, for my greeting, I pulled out a stamp by a previous sponsor, My Sentiments Exactly. This stamp is about 5" long and so I just used a portion of it for my card. Notice that I embossed the Core'dinations cardstock with my Swiss Dot embossing plate and also notice the sanded edges of the card. I used a great WhiteWashed cardstock for the card base and by sanding it, that brought out the blue, reverse side.

Gotta share some goodness from yesterday too! Our youngest grandson was playing in the water and he filled a bucket he had. He dumped out the water in the bucket and quickly put it on his head. BUT, the bucket had had sand in it so when he removed the bucket, guess what was left all over his head!

HE IS TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO BEING DIRTY!!!

And, guess what came to our house yesterday?

After a whole lot of names being considered, her name is now officially, TinkerBell!

It will soon be our granddaughter's 12th birthday and this little cutie is one of her birthday presents, just a bit early. Here they are meeting for the first time.

This little kitty just loves to crawl up to our shoulders and just sit there, so here she is on Grandpa and our youngest grandson is getting a close look and an exercise in being GENTLE!

Creating Backgrounds - PART 7 - PAINT

JustRite Self-Inking stamps contest

For a creative and fun background, I am using stamping and paint. What makes this a fun technique is you can custom color a piece of paper and I love the feel and texture that paint adds to paper. This just provides a little different look to the finished card. #1. I again started with a plain piece of white cardstock. That was stamped with a "dot" background stamp. I know I have used this before but I really love this thing! It is just so versatile. Mine is from Stamp Camp and I know that Cornish Heritage Farms has one that is very similar. Mine is an unmounted rubber stamp that I use with an acrylic block. I stamped it with the black ColorBox stamp pad and then embossed it with black embossing powder.
(The reason I embossed my image is that I wanted the dots to really stand out against the next step and the embossing will resist the paint.)
#2. Next, the red paint was brushed across the stamped and embossed dots. This is fast and simple. I went outside of the lines of my image too because I am going to cut it to size to use it.
#3. Once the entire surface is painted, you should only wait a few minutes before you start rubbing the paint off of the embossed design. I just take a soft cloth or a Kleenex and gently rub it off. The paint might even still be slightly wet in some areas. You might need to use some added pressure to completely buff the paint off of each dot. Here is the finished project.
You might be wondering what my accent flower creation is! I have a friend who shared some really cool flower pieces cut from an old dictionary! (If you take a look at her blog you will tons of amazing examples of using these cut flowers) I did paint the largest, bottom flower with Sparkle, Mod Podge but that is a little hard to see in the photo. I knew that would slightly stiffen that layer and add some bling.
You can see the layers a little better in this photo. I inserted punched out red cardstock circles between the dictionary flower layers to add some stability and it also helps define the layers of flowers.
