The SUNDAY TIMES - 8.10.08 - His Love

John 3:16 (NKJ) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

I think most people have at least heard of this verse. There are a whole lot of people who know it or parts of it. If you went to Sunday School as a child, you probably memorized it. Yet, this one sentence is the most profound and meaningful grouping of words in history. This most significant example of LOVE was meant for us! I don't want to ever take it for granted.

Eyelets and more Eyelets!

Admit it! If you have been a scrapper or cardmaker for very long, you DO have a stash of eyelets! Why, because there was the time we used eyelets on about everything so we had to have them in every color and a few sizes!
At the Pursuit of CraftYness blog, the group did a challenge where we created something with the thought of "Something Old..." as our incentive. I sat for a minute and thought about a supply that I had lots of but didn't really use anymore and of course my eyelet "COLLECTION" came to mind. (Notice I called it a "COLLECTION"! Sounds far more important and maybe that also gives it a position of prominence in my drawers) I hand cut the tree top and the trunk and filled in the tree top with eyelets. Can I say this was FUN!!! I just might have to come up with another project that uses lots of eyelets.

My little flowers are eyelets too! To keep with the "Something old..." thought, I pulled out some KI Memories papers that I had always liked.

CPS sketch #76 and more

First off - be sure to hop on over to The Pursuit Of CraftYness blog for the last projects in the "Something Old" feature. My card uses up a bunch of my eyelets that have been sitting here way too long!!!

Since I love working with sketches, I wanted to share a couple with you today. This one uses one of my newest purchases - these way-too-cute Paper Bag Studios stamps.
This first one is my Card Positioning Systems card for this week but I also wanted to be able to share a close up. The paper I stamped on started out just plain cream colored. After stamping my two main images and embossing them with black embossing powder, I added color with Fluid Chalk stamp pads and a couple kinds of spray color. I embossed the images with black because when I went to rub them with the stamp pads, I could rub that color off of the black images and they would show up a little stronger.
This second card uses the 2 Sketch 4 U sketch #6 and another of my newest purchases - some amazing October Afternoon papers!!!
The edges of the striped piece of paper were distressed with the Tonic Paper Distresser, just a nice way to help that piece stand out a little big more against the other pattern. I cut the flowers from the reverse side of one of the prints and the flowers were covered with the Paper Glaze which just adds a nice bit of emphasis.

Hint for the day!!!

I'm going to share a (hint)!

This (hint) comes to you from experience!!!

When you want to do some machine sewing on a card, be sure to OPEN the card so that you don't sew it shut!!! Have you been there? You can tell that I have, that's why I'm sharing the (hint)!!! The recipient of your card will not be very impressed with the fact that the card doesn't really open. And, of course, as much as I try to remind myself of this really good advice, I'm still know to do it, just like I did a couple days ago.

Fun stuff:
We went to our county fair Monday night to hear the Beach Boys! SOOOOOO much fun. LOVE that so many different age groups love these guys and their songs.

Some Flower Yum!

YUM & YUMMINESS and variations thereof must be my new "go to" words!

Anyway, the cards I'm going to share with you today were created using Kitchen Sink Stamps and HELLO!, just the name of the company alone makes you want to use these things! They were the sponsors for Card Positioning Systems blog when we did Sketch #73 and can I tell you, I quickly feel in love with them. The set I picked to work with includes some Hibiscus flowers and some words or phrases. The deal on these stamps is that they are 3-step. You are going to stamp what looks like one flower but with three different layers. WOWIE, does that ever make the flower come to life. (their images don't just include flowers with this same process) The hardest part is to figure out what stamp pads you have that will work for the three shades, one needing to be very light, the last needing to be rather strong. I just played for awhile to find out what pads were going to work well. I actually ended up using stamp pads from different companies and with different kinds of inks but they still worked together. Another interesting note is that after you have finished stamping and you image sits for awhile, the colors seem to melt together.

For this card, I stamped the flower and the two sizes of leaves and then I created a mask of the flower so that it would be covered and I stamped the words over that. A mask in this case, makes the flower then look like it is sitting on top of the words when in reality I stamped that first.
For this card, I found these amazing papers just sitting on my desk as scraps from other projects and they were just the perfect colors for bringing out the single stamped flower. The card base is a printed vellum. It has a second white cardstock card inside of that for added sturdiness.

On this card, I stamped my flower and leaf and then cut them out. My background is created with random stampings of the smaller flower in the set and then my cut out pieces were added with foam tape. I love the dimension that is added when some pieces are placed on the card with the foam tape.

The SUNDAY TIMES - 8.3.08 - God's Faithfulness

"Every cloud is a flag to your faithfulness"

Do you ever find a phrase that you find to be just plain picturesque? When I read this verse in Psalms, I just had to stop. I could see that and it just made me happy. We don't get a whole lot of clouds around here but when we travel in Oregon, the sky can be filled with big, white fluffy clouds and I am always amazed at the beauty of that. I have to stop and look and try to take pictures. That is exactly what I saw when I read this, God covering the sky with markers of His faithfulness!

This is the entire portion from Psalms 57 from the Message Bible:

9-10 I'm thanking you, God, out loud in the streets,

singing your praises in town and country.

The deeper your love, the higher it goes;

every cloud is a flag to your faithfulness.

11 Soar high in the skies, O God!

Cover the whole earth with your glory!
